So you have found you Filipina Dream Girl - what next?
I was married in 1988 and remember how confusing it all was back then. The bad news is things have only got harder. Both getting married and
migration have become much more difficult in the past few years.
The Philippines has attempted to change it image as a source of Mail Order Brides by introducing tough new anti-people
trafficking laws that try to ensure that the relationship is genuine and the Filipino citizen is informed about their decision to marry a foreign citizen. Sounds good in principle but in
reality its just more hoops for you to jump through and demands for documentation and payments.
If you were previously married and divorced then you have even more hoops to jump
through including providing documents such as a certificate of no impedance. If your Filipina wants to get married in a Church then she is in for a disappointment, as the Catholic
Church in the Philippines will not marry divorced people.
Will you get married in the Philippines or in your home country? The decision is more likely to be based on which visa is
easiest to obtain than personal preference. Collecting all the paperwork in order to get married can be very challenging on its own. Then there is the wedding to arrange.
Weddings are very different in the Philippines and there are many cultural considerations to be aware of.
After getting married the next big challenge is migration. Assuming your
lady gets her clearance to travel overseas (they make her attend seminars and interviews after which they make an evaluation as to where to grant her an exist permit). You then have to
deal with your own immigration and most of them seem hostile these days to you bringing your Filipina Dream Girl home. They make you jump through even more hoops and some will deny your
application forcing you to re-apply.
When you finally do get her home then there is a lot of adjustment on both sides. If either of you have previous children then this is
an area that needs careful consideration. There are many other cultural aspect that it helps to be aware of.
I am sure you would agree that a book that dealt with all the above and much more would be most helpful to someone about to embark on those tasks. The
good news is such a book now exists.
The book is called Filipina 202 and written by Perry Gamsby and is the follow up to the Filipina 101 ebook. Perry has lived in the Philippines for a
number of years and has written a number of other books on Philippine related topics.
