Finding employment, starting a business or investing in the Philippines
Many of us dream of moving to the Philippines to live but for most of us the only holding us back is the need to make a living. Few of us have enough
savings to retire on and need an income source.
The Philippines can be a tropical paradise for those with enough money to live comfortably but for many others it is hell on earth if
you don’t. It is a user pays system where no one will give you a break. If you can pay then its all good but if you can’t then live could become miserable.
Each
year many guys sell up all their possessions including homes and cars and head over here sure they will be able to make a living. They start a business or in some way invest the money
and in most cases there is nothing left after a year or two. The Philippines eats up such people each year and spits them out.
Getting a job is also a major challenge in a
country that already has very high unemployment. You need a special visa to work and even then the list of prohibited professions is as long as an average toilet roll (or seems to
be).
Starting a business seems easy until you discover there is as much red tape involved here as back home. As you are a foreigner there are special limitations on
ownership and you will be under the magnify glass by authorities that see an opportunity to extract more cash. Around the world the statistics show than most new business fail and the
Philippines is no different – in fact being in a foreign country dealing with Filipinos just makes it that much more challenging.
Investing in the Philippines is a very risky
business also. Fish farms and pig farms are two of the favorites for foreigners wanting to invest and many have lost their life savings with those.
Sound very bleak
doesn’t it. There are actually opportunities in the Philippines to find employment, start a successful business or investment. A new book by Perry Gamsby called Making A
Living in the Philippines explains how. It does not try to say it’s easy but it defiantly is possible, as the author has done exactly that. Perry
has lived in the Philippines for a number of years and has written a other books on living and working in the Philippines.
